Raquel Acevedo Klein
About Raquel– Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Raquel Acevedo Klein is an active conductor, vocalist, instrumentalist and visual artist. Raquel has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, Town Hall, BAM, St. Ann’s Warehouse, Celebrate Brooklyn!, National Sawdust and elsewhere.
She has recorded and performed with the likes of Glen Hansard, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, The National, Grizzly Bear, The Knights, NY Philharmonic, International Contemporary Ensemble and Mariinsky Orchestra among others.
She is currently a touring vocalist with Anthony Braxton for his retrospective Braxton75 concert season. She conducts for the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus. She has premiered works by Philip Glass, John Adams, Louis Andriessen, Nico Muhly, Caroline Shaw, Paola Prestini, Bryce Dessner, Missy Mazzoli, Shara Nova, and Aleksandra Vrebalov, to name a few. Phong Tran
About Phong – Phong Tran is a Brooklyn-based composer, electronic musician, and visual artist. Much of his work is developed through late night wikipedia dives while obsessing over things like simulation theory, abstract story structure, Dungeons & Dragons, and vaporwave eccojams. Phong actively performs in MEDIAQUEER, a synthesizer and violin duo formed in 2018 with Darian Thomas. His work has been released through people | places | records and through slashsound. About the music – Rich Text Format is a piece co-commissioned by Francis Favis and Troika Percussion. The piece is an exploration of semantic association between images, texts, and sound. Beginning with the strongest association of semantic meaning using words and text, the piece breaks down the components of the text and reforms its meaning into a blended world of simple shapes, colors, and sounds.
Aaron Locklear
About Aaron – Aaron Locklear is the Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Percussion at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. Aaron is an active performer, playing on featured concerts at the PAS Alabama Day of Percussion alongside Michael Burritt, at the PAS International Convention with the inaugural All-Star Percussion Ensemble, and as a featured artist at the Great Plains International Marimba Competition. He also performed as soloist for the world premiere of ‘of Melody & Pulse‘ from Alejandro Viñao’s Estudios de Frontera.
Other projects include performing with the Alabama, Syracuse, and Montgomery Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Skaneateles Festival Orchestra and Bemus Bay Pops. Aaron has an active history in the marching arts as front ensemble instructor with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps and performing member with the Spirit of Atlanta. He is also a published composer with Tapspace Publications.
Aaron holds his MM and performer’s certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and BM from Auburn University. His primary teachers include Michael Burritt, Doug Rosener, Chip Ross, Jim Ross, and Jeff Grant.
About the music – Together for Percussion Trio is a musical exploration of human relationships. Each musical moment, both individually and collectively, expounds on human states such as loneliness, community, self-reliance, interdependence, conflict, and harmony.
